Description: Canna leaves are usually large, banana-like, tropical-looking and bold. Most cultivars have rich emerald-green leaves, but some have purple/red or variegated leaves. The purple or red leaf color is usually quite dark and may cover the entire leaf, just the outside margin, or occasionally just the midrib.
Uses: The rhizomes of cannas are rich in starch, and have many uses in agriculture. All of the plant material has commercial value, rhizomes for starch (consumption by humans and livestock), stems and foliage for animal fodder, young shoots as a vegetable, and young seeds as an addition to tortillas.
