Description: Sweet basil, annual herb of the mint family grown for its aromatic leaves. Basil leaves are glossy and oval-shaped, with smooth or slightly toothed edges that typically cup slightly; the leaves are arranged oppositely along the square stems.
Uses: The parts of the plant that grow above the ground are used to make medicine. Basil is used for stomach spasms, loss of appetite, intestinal gas, kidney conditions, fluid retention, head colds, warts, and worm infections. It is also used to treat snake and insect bites.

Soil Requirement	Basil does its best in well-drained, moist soil with a neutral pH. Add a rich compost to the soil at the beginning of the season. Not much more soil amendment is necessary. In fact, if the soil is too rich, basil loses some of its flavor intensity.
Environment	It prefers temperatures between 15°C–23°C. Basil is very sensitive to frost, so it’s recommended to harvest your Basil beforehand, as the cold temperatures will kill your plants.
Watering	Basil likes to stay moist and requires approximately 1 inch of water every week.
