- Description: Hamelia is a large ornamental evergreen shrub that reaches a height and width of 8 to 12 feet without support. This plant is free-flowering. The orange-red flowers are arranged in cymes, clusters of flowers that occur at the end of forking floral stalks.
- Uses: Hamelia is mostly grown as an ornamental plant worldwide in warm, moist areas. Leaves have cooling effect and are chewed on a hot day as prevention against heat stroke. It can also grow well in a pot, and it should most likely be brought indoors during the winter. It can be used as a foundation plant and is excellent in mass plantings or as a screen or hedge.
