Papaya (پپیتا)

  • Scientific Name: Carica Papaya
  • Common Name: Papaw, Pawpaw, Papita
  • Description: The papaya is a small, sparsely branched tree, usually with a single stem growing from 5 to 10 m tall, with spirally arranged leaves confined to the top of the trunk. The leaves are large, 50–70 cm in diameter, deeply palmately lobed, with seven lobes.
  • Uses: The leaves are used to make medicine. Papaya is used for preventing and treating gastrointestinal tract disorders.

Soil Requirement Grows well in well-drained rich sandy loam soils with a depth of 45cm or medium black soils free from water logging.
Environment  Papaya is a tropical, plant, very sensitive to frost. Optimum temperature is 25 – 30°C while temperatures below 10°C delays ripening.
Watering  It requires only two irrigations in a week during summer and one irrigation in winter for healthy crop and better produce.
