Soil Requirement | Date palms require sandy loam and clayey loam soils and can tolerate soils with high levels of salts. |
Environment | Date palm is cultivated in arid and semi-arid regions which are characterised by long and hot summers, no (or at most low) rainfall, and very low relative humidity level during the ripening period. Exceptional high temperatures (± 56°C) are well endured by a date palm for several days under irrigation. |
Watering | Date Palms require no watering once established. Generally, trees need supplemental irrigation to get established, especially if planted after the rainy season. During the first year, irrigate in the amount of 20 – 25 liters of water twice a week. |
