It is fifth month of desi calendar, and is 31 days long. It coincide with July and august. It starts from  16th July and ends on 15th August in Gregorian calendar. This is a very sacred month for hindu. It is most popular and favorite month then other months of desi calendar. Weather is very pleasant and all living things are very happy and enjoy the sawan vary much.

The heat of hottest months of summer is now decreases and sawan mark the onset of monsoon season. A monsoon is a shift in winds that often causes a very rainy season or a very dry season. Monsoons are usually associated with parts of Asia, they can happen in many tropical and subtropical regions including Pakistan. As the land heats up in the summer, the wind begins to change direction and blows from the south. This new wind blows moist air from the Oceans, resulting in thunderstorms and rainfall.

Farmers in Pakistan rely on the wet summer months (Sawan) to grow crops. However the sawan does not always bring the same amount of rainfall, and variations in rain have implications for agriculture and the economy. Most of the Pakistan’s population associated with agriculture, and monsoon rains directly affect their incomes and livelihood. Ornamental plants are also affected by sawan, many beautiful plants get green and healthy and a lot of flowers bloom in in this month.

Sawan is also associated to floods and droughts, both of which are hazardous to health. During sawan, heavy rainfall can cause flooding. Powerful floodwaters can drown victims and damage buildings, leaving people without homes and vulnerable to the elements. Diseases like cholera, dengue, chikungunya, and malaria, as well as stomach and eye infections spread quickly.

Plants of the Month

Ixora

It is an evergreen flowering plant that is notable for its brightly colored blooms. Ixora blooms best and grows more densely with full, direct sun for most of the day, but it also likes partial shade in the hottest climates. Ixora species are used in traditional medicines such as astringent and for the cure of tuberculosis.

Chandni:

It is an evergreen plant and it is also known as Crape Jasmine. Its flowers are fragrant at night, it grows outdoor in warm climates and requires well drained soil, and it grows well at sunny locations in tropical and sub-tropical climates (plants in bright sunlight produces more blooms). It has amazing medical uses, especially for relaxing tired eyes and getting rid of burning sensation of eyes.

Hibiscus:

A bushy evergreen shrub with glossy leaves and brilliant red flowers that bloom in autumn and summer, need warmer temperatures (16-32 degrees C). If you live in a hot climate, hibiscus foliage will stay green and lush year-round. It is widely cultivated as an ornamental and also used as hedge plant.
